It's been years since I've painted a house and I was so thrilled to receive this commission to paint. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to do.
This lovely house is on George Street in Cobourg, ON. In our preliminary discussion about what the client wanted, we decided that snow would be nice. Knowing what our climate has been like in recent years, the first morning it snowed, I quickly drove down and took pictures. Even though our home is only about 7 km north of where this house is, we will often have snow where they will have rain. Good old Lake Ontario influencing their weather.
The painting was a surprise Christmas gift for the client's partner. Hence, the late Christmas post. I didn't want to spoil the surprise.
A side note about the paint: the coniferous trees on both sides of the house were painted with Daniel Smith's Green Apatite Genuine paint, mixed with some Winsor & Newton colours to make that almost black colour. It is interesting to me how that Green Apatite colour created a velvety look. Maybe that is because this particular paint has finely ground apatite in it. Whatever the case, I love it!
Merry Christmas, everyone!
