Monday Class - Not Just Making Art

Art class isn't just making art. It's drinking green tea or lemon ginger tea or decaf coffee and eating a sweet snack like today's Mocha Chocolate Chip squares. It's talking with and listening to the other artists around the table. It's laughter, lots of laughter. No topic is off the table.





Another grandchild's portrait done! This one was done with Stabilo Carbothello chalk pastels on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper. Can you imagine the time it took to sketch those bales of hay?





This group of artists are usually looking to stretch themselves. Painting in a looser manner is the goal of the artist below. This will look great when it's done.





If you want to start painting with watercolours and don't want to spend a lot on supplies until you know if you really like it, these paints are great. Artecho watercolour paints. A few of my students use them. They are not bad at all for entry level priced paints. The artist below has been using them. One of the sets she has includes quite a few luminescent colours - perfect for painting hummingbirds.





Working with chalk-pastels is so wonderful. They can be erased. In the painting below, you can see the process of how this artist drew her image. She used a grid which she erases with a kneadable eraser when she doesn't need it any longer. The black background was done with pan pastels.





Art class isn't just making art, it's holding your breath when a finished painting gets revealed. As this artist peeled off the frog tape......





.... her painting was seen for the first time without the green making tape around it.
