I think I've got a fairly good likeness now. I had to resort to many tricks that I teach my students: taking measurements (ratio on this one is 1 cm: 1"- from the reference photo), turning both reference photo and painting upside down to see it better, and talking to yourself as you draw. i.e. "Oh! that line is completely parallel to the edge of the page."
What appealed to me about this commission was the dozens of individual wheat heads. Can't wait to paint them.
Today, I have time to figure out what shade of grey to paint the people. I think I'll make a bunch of it and put it in a separate container so there is consistency.
