We had a table full of talented artists at yesterday's drawing workshop. Some of them admitted that they hadn't drawn since high school.... which was a very long time ago. Another one was in high school! Nice cross-section of ages. As you can see, this young lady really got the hint when understanding texture. Look at that cork!
One thing we always do in this workshop is draw our own footwear. Often there is a conflict between the artist's left, logical brain and her right, spacial brain. She knows that there are laces on the other side of the shoe, but she can't see them. She has to learn to draw only what she sees, not what she knows to be there. This artist did a fine job of overcoming that challenge.
For the last couple of hours, I offer our artists a variety of subject matter to paint from. These are images from Flickr photographers who I have contacted to get permission to print their amazing photos as reference. Finally, yesterday someone chose the photo in the centre with the striped legs! I've been waiting for this for a couple of years.
And, here is the beginning of her sketch. It looks to me like she matches her artwork. Once a stripe lover always a stripe lover.
There is still room at the next drawing workshop at The Painted Tree art store in a few weeks - October 19.
